Tetley has landed itself in hot water with advertising watchdogs for making ambiguous claims on the health benefits of tea.

The Advertising Standards Agency has upheld a complaint from the Food Commission concerning two posters from Tetley’s campaign to promote its tea.

The FC objected to the wording: “Tetley is rich in antioxidants that can keep your hearth healthy” and “Go on live a lot” , which it said were misleading and implied that drinking tea had proven health benefits and would prolong life.

The ASA noted the tea giant’s assertion that the claims would not reappear, but added it was “concerned” that Tetley’s advertising agency had ignored copy advice in the past on a similar heart health claim.
