Dorset police are investigating a spate of parcel bomb attacks believed to be connected with a blackmail attempt to extort £1m from Tesco. Detectives were called in after a letter bomb exploded in the hands of an elderly man from east Dorset, and are "urging the public to treat any suspicious packages with caution" after a further three packages were intercepted. Tesco confirmed it was the "subject of a localised blackmail threat" after a blackmailer police described as a "commercial terrorist" sent demands to the chain's headquarters in Cheshunt. But security director John Purnell said there was "little point in speculating" over the motivations for the attack. He added: We are treating this extremely seriously and our primary concern is the safety of all our customers and staff." {{NEWS }}
