Tesco is extending its thrust in the personnel arena to cater for customers shopping for a new career. It has started trials of a free government sponsored internet point for jobseekers. It partnered with the Department of Education and Employment for a six-month trial of two Jobsearch touch screen points at its Luton Metro store. Jobpoints have also been installed in Tesco's Port Talbot store. Employment minister Tessa Jowell said: "Jobpoints in supermarkets offer jobseekers a convenient opportunity to search for work. The agreement between the Employment Service and Tesco to install Jobpoints in supermarkets is a great example of public and private sector co-operation  an example which we believe will help more people find the jobs they want and more employers find the people they need." The same system is being installed in every Jobcentre in Britain to replace the vacancy display boards as part of the Employment Service's modernisation programme. The job point' links to a host of recruitment web sites as well as vacancies advertised at the local Job Centre. Customers will not be charged for their use of the facility. The same free link is on offer at the three Tesco cybercafes, with plans to roll it out to to a further seven which open this month. A Tesco spokesman said: "There is a gap between the plethora of recruitment companies which have gone online and the reality that people looking for jobs may not have ready access to the Internet. "We are addressing that with the new site." {{PEOPLE MOVES }}
