Tesco is considering the launch of a non food catalogue in its stores in a move that would issue a direct challenge to retailers such as Argos.

The reports follow the trial of internet kiosks in 90 stores, which boosted sales across a wide range of non food items.

Tesco is also said to be surprised at the demand from customers placing internet orders for home delivery at non-food desks.

The retailer plans to open a 750,000 sq ft depot dedicated to non food next month.
