Tesco have withdrawn plans to appeal against the refusal of
planning permission to build a store in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland.
The supermarket had been refused planning permission for the 47,000 square foot superstore because it “would lead to an adverse impact of the vitality and viability of Ballycastle town centre”.
Bryan Gray, chief executive of the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association, who led the opposition to the stores development, said independent retailers welcomed healthy competition but huge out of town stores could lead to large-scale closures and loss of jobs.
