Tesco re-establishes itself at the top of the chart this week, moving up from number four. The retailer is now particularly strong on confectionery and health and beauty and has a number of multibuy offers situated on gondola ends.
The upward movement of Tesco forces Sainsbury, Asda and Safeway down by one place while Morrisons and Somerfield remain unchanged in positions five and six respectively. Alcoholic drinks continues to be particularly strong in Sainsbury and Asda.
In the category chart the positions of the leading two remain the same, with alcoholic drinks standing well ahead of the field at number one and maintaining its lead of 18 percentage points.
Frozen continues to sit in second place, while the health and beauty category moves up one place to number three, supported by the activity in Tesco. Soft drinks, meanwhile, slips by one place and confectionery re-enters the chart at number five.
The top of the brand chart is remarkably stable this week with the top four each in the same position as last week.
However, Stella Artois at number one is now being pressurised by both Baileys and Nestlé, both of which are less than one percentage adrift of the leader. Mars and Walkers move up to numbers five and eight respectively.
The bottom half of the chart is dominated by new entries of which there are four, including Pringles and Terry’s.
In the own label category chart the top three are unchanged from last week with frozen continuing to take the lead.
Alcoholic drinks moves up by one place to number four and sauces and dressings sneaks in at the bottom of the chart as a new entry.
