Tesco and developers Taylor Woodrow have joined forces to open a flagship store, which will incorporate a major new residential scheme.
The development is situated opposite Clapham South tube station in southwest London and retains elements of the old South London Women’s hospital which has occupied the site since the 1930s.
Tesco development manager Glyn Hughes laid the final section of concrete on the £22m development, which incorporates a 25,000 sq ft store. The site also provides 3,000 sq ft in smaller buildings for hire by other retailers.
The residential element has been purchased by Grainger Trust Plc. It includes 77 flats for private sale, and 27 affordable units.
Selling agents Savills, and Phillips & Southern, are marketing the properties, with prices starting at £190,000. The store will open this autumn, and apartments are set for occupation in early 2006.
