Tesco has stepped up its recruitment strategy with the introduction of a talent planning approach. David Fairhurst, the multiple's group resourcing director, said: "Tesco already has a widely respected talent spotting programme. What's changed is that we've introduced a talent planning process, which means our staff resourcing has become a lot more proactive. "We're focusing much more on planning ahead for vacancies as opposed to sitting back, waiting and panicking. "Our nationwide recruitment drive for more than 600 store managers, senior team roles and section managers fits into that strategy." He explained the job opportunities were part of Tesco's rapid expansion plans. "We're not being reactive. We know we'll have 600 positions to fill," he said. And he said the multiple was improving its use of technology as part of this process: "We have introduced a new feature to our careers web site where someone can record when they want to be contacted about a position." He said the development was intended to make things more convenient for busy retailers who did not want to be contacted during work hours. Fairhurst added that Tesco had set up a call centre to help chase web site contacts, as well as to help field enquiries about positions from interested parties. {{PEOPLE MOVES }}
