Tesco has removed its online clothing range less than six months after it was launched, pending a review of its performance.

A spokeswoman denied the move was a result of poor sales, saying the trial, which started in November, had simply come to an end.

"It was always intended that the trial would be run for a set period and then be reviewed. You can't assume it was unsuccessful."

Tesco would examine the results of the trial before future plans were made, she added. A message on the Tesco Direct website said: "Thank you for visiting Tesco clothing online. We have listened to your feedback and will be trying to improve our offer based on this."
