The Co-operative Group is improving services for blind people by committing to a service charter and expanding its Braille packaged range.
Last week the group became the latest retailer to sign up to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association’s High Street Charter, which aims to improve the shopping experience for the one million blind people living in the UK.
The Co-op recently expanded its range of own label goods carrying Braille on the packaging to more than 300 products.
Brand and technical head David Croft said: “Signing up to Guide Dogs’ High Street Charter reinforces our commitment to improving our service for blind and partially-sighted people.
“This is demonstrated by our determination to put Braille packaging on our products wherever we can, so that blind or partially-sighted people can lead more independent lives.”
In 2001, the Co-operative Group was the first retailer and pharmacist to introduce Braille on the packaging of its own label medicines.
Alcoholic drink labels were the next sector and now frozen ready meals, meat, poultry, bakery, biscuits, desserts and pet food packaging are included in the range.
