Patrick Allen, head of group marketing at United Co-operatives, is joining the management executive.

Allen joined in May 2004 from running a consultancy. He introduced a corporate marketing department, which brought together the marketing of its food, travel, Sunwin Motor Group, healthcare and funeral businesses.

Within the department, Susan Beetlestone has been appointed general manager for marketing.

Beetlestone was previously marketing manager for food and will retain this responsibility but will also have wider responsibilities across the marketing operation. She will be reporting to Allen.

Also reporting to Allen will be Ruth Evans, marketing manager for travel, Matthew Ward, marketing manager for Sunwin, and Amanda Fryer, marketing co-ordinator for healthcare.

Allen will take responsibility for the marketing activity for the funeral business. The department is also planning to create the new role of marketing manager of corporate affairs.
