Winner Asda Dundee West boasted a full basket, helping it rack up one of the highest scores this G33 year. Shop floor service was excellent, and the checkout assistant offered a bag for life and help with packing. A small queue at checkout did not distract from the strong service.
A big half-price event was being heavily promoted at Waitrose Cheadle Hulme. Staff presence could have been better on the shop floor, and there had been a fault in the freezer section so barely any products were on shelf. But the checkout assistant was “efficient” and the queue was short.
There was a lot of restocking at Sainsbury’s Forestside, and repair work was taking place on chilled produce fridges. Plenty of “polite and helpful” staff were on the shop floor, but just 50% of the tills were open.
At Morrisons Liverpool Belle Vale, the entrance was “cluttered and busy.” There was litter on the floor and two spillages in the freezer section. Just one product was out of stock.
There was overcrowding in the trolley area at Tesco Hazelwick. Restocking trolleys caused congestion, and items looked messy on shelves. Some overhead signage was incorrect and, at the checkout, the assistant barely uttered a word.
This week’s guest retailer, Aldi, trailed in last. Its Blackpool Road store in Preston was congested as shoppers browsed offers in the cramped entrance. There wasn’t any overhead signage, and staff could have done more to help find items. There was a long queue, and the Quorn Mince was scanned as Chicken Style Pieces.
