Name: Simon Gregg

Job title: SVP e-commerce, Asda

How have you attracted and retained online customers amid the cost of living crisis? Our focus is to give customers value for money every time they shop with us. We’ve invested heavily in price, while launching money-saving initiatives including the Asda Rewards loyalty app and Just Essentials value range of 300 products. Both of these initiatives are available online.

How was the Christmas period for you? Christmas was an exciting time as we had more available slots than ever before and offered Christmas Eve delivery for the first time across all of our stores. This helped us to achieve the number two market share position in the four weeks to 25 December.

Are you planning any improvements to the website? We are continuously improving the website. Lately our customers have been finding the link-up with Asda Rewards to be a real benefit and have been building up their Cashpots when shopping with us online – so much so that over 50% of all Asda.com orders are now linked to the Asda Rewards app. To help customers manage their budgets, we recently launched a range of Just Essentials recipes that would feed a family of four every evening for a week for just £20. The recipes are available exclusively online and can be linked directly to customers’ shopping baskets.

How is Asda responding to the rise of super-fast delivery apps and services? Asda has long understood the value in providing rapid-delivery options. We’ve accelerated our partnerships with Uber Eats, Just Eat, and Deliveroo in response and continue to look at new, innovative partnerships with last-mile operators. Now customers can choose from an array of different delivery options nationwide. This includes same-day delivery, where orders that come in during the morning will be delivered afternoon or early evening of that same day. We also offer express delivery that can take anywhere from one to four hours. Finally, customers can access quick commerce orders delivered by Uber Eats that take under an hour, usually 30 to 40 minutes.
