Making its first appearance, as a guest retailer, in our new Grocer 33, Iceland came a very reasonable third and was joint-highest (with winner Sainsbury’s) for availability. The store was quiet, well organised and staff were attentive. There was no queue and the checkout assistant helped pack. The sloping car park made it difficult to steer the trolley but overall it was a “stress-free” experience.
Sainsbury’s celebrates its first win of the G33 year. The Woolton store was “clean and spacious.” Despite a few gaps on shelves, every effort was made to help our shopper find items.
At Asda’s Isle of Dogs Superstore, Ramadan was heavily promoted throughout. It was clean, tidy and staff were “extremely friendly.” Aisles were navigated “without conflict” and additional facilities were offered including a personalised birthday cake service.
Staff at Morrisons Rotherham in South Yorkshire didn’t check for items not on shelf and just advised that “if they couldn’t be seen, they weren’t stocked.” There was a slight queue at the checkout but the operator was “chatty and helpful.”
Pimm’s and strawberries were being promoted at Waitrose Wymondham and were displayed “attractively” at entry. Signage was helpful, although the layout was “confusing” and gaps were seen on the shelves.
A hedge was obstructing the exit sign in the car park at Tesco Gloucester but in-store it was “bright and had a fresh appearance.” Cages abandoned down aisles caused congestion and a staff member tripped on cardboard on the floor while showing our shopper to an item.
