You must be chuffed to have come up trumps at such a busy time of the year. This is a brilliant result for the store and all credit goes to the team who have shown a great desire to deliver to such a high standard. The focus was on the big areas that drive the business, such as service and availability.
So how was Christmas for the store? Very good. We received fantastic feedback from customers. I think we had a great package with service, availability and fantastic festive products. Lines that did particularly well were the in-store bakery panettone and stollen as well as the great Christmas gateaux range. Our Christmas voucher scheme also went down well. It all linked with the TV campaign in which we asked customers to be our guest, and that is what we did when we welcomed shoppers to the store.
Have the new ordering tablets helped with availability? Definitely. We have had the tablets for about six weeks now and they are working well. The key was making sure all our staff were fully trained. What I have tried to get across to staff is that they should order products as if they are doing so for their own business. Availability has improved since we brought them in.
How have shopping habits changed post-Christmas? Shoppers are looking to buy more healthy eating products and as customer habits change we have to make sure the shop is ready to meet their needs. We have a great range already to cater for this but it is all about making sure shoppers can find the products they want. Customers are also looking for the best deals and the feedback we get is that we deliver that.
So what is the next big focus? Our store is about to be converted to the fresh format over the next couple of months and we are really looking forward to it. It is all about adding that bit more theatre to the store and I am sure it will go down well.
