Morrisons Tŷ Glas, Cardiff ruled the roost this week after providing our mystery shopper with a full trolley of 33 items alongside excellent shop floor service.
Staff were polite and friendly, and when our shopper asked where an item was, one in particular “took me to the location and asked if he could help with anything else”. This continued at the checkout where the operator was “efficient and quick”.
Sainsbury’s Eastbourne was a very close second but was let down by our shopper’s checkout experience, where wait times were long and another customer was heard making a request for ‘till busters’ to alert staff to busy areas. Overall though, our customer left feeling “wanted and respected as a customer”.
Tesco Southend made an excellent first impression with free berries for customers as they came into the store. A “tidy store with aisles not crammed with trollies restocking shelves”, it was only let down by car park queuing times.
There were full marks for Waitrose Wilmslow for shop floor service. Many helpful staff, including the store manager, were on hand to help our shopper locate items. It was let down by a long checkout wait and a lack of availability for one item.
Asda Washington made a bad first impression with a long walk from the car park and a “small, dated and unattractive” store entrance. It continued inside with a “dark and uninviting” interior. Our shopper was frustrated with the unintuitive layout. Staff were helpful and easy to identify, though the member of staff on checkout was “chatting to her colleague” rather than our shopper.
