Sainsbury’s in Whitby wins this week with a huge 94 points, 25 points ahead of its nearest rival. Described as “airy and quiet” on this Friday evening shop, the store was “clean and tidy throughout”. Our shopper found the experience “stress-free” and “a breeze” and applauded the store for its logical layout and “amenable, helpful and friendly” staff members.

Waitrose in High Wycombe displayed a “nice selection of seasonal products such as barbecue items” and a “spacious, clean and nicely lit” entrance area. Our shopper found some fresh produce was out of stock and that stock was running low on chilled items. Despite this there were only three unavailable products.

At Asda Stockport, re-stocking was taking place, with a couple of stocking cages causing congestion in aisles. The store scored top marks for shop floor service, with staff making our shopper feel “like a valued customer” while searching for an out of stock product.

Tesco in Oxford had seven unavailable items and there was “quite a lot of restocking going on”. The chilled area was “messy” and the fresh fruit & veg had a number of out of stock items. Shop floor service scored top marks here too, with one member of staff described as “extremely efficient, polite and professional” and “a credit to the Tesco team”.

A spillage “immediately upon entry that was not being attended to” led Morrisons in Horndean to score low on store standards. However, checkout service was “excellent” even though our shopper felt “more tills could have been opened”.
