A score of 83 for its Newport store was more than enough to give Sainsbury’s its second service and availability victory in a row. Coupled with strong availability, our mystery shopper described this as “a very enjoyable shop” and even went so far as to say she would be happy to make it her regular local store.
At Morrisons in Baillieston, Glasgow, staff were friendly and helpful as our shopper picked up all bar two items (which were not stocked). However loose trolleys in the car park, “untidy and haphazard” displays and restocking blocking the bakery aisle took the shine off.
It was similar at Tesco Lincoln. Our shopper picked up all bar two not-stocked items and described staff as “polite and helpful”. However, she found the store “dated and a bit run-down” and the layout “a bit odd and difficult to navigate”.
Aldi Wakefield also proved hard to navigate. This was partly down to the store being busy, but restocking trolleys also created obstructions. Despite this, our shopper picked up all 33 items and “was in and out in just over 30 minutes”.
At Waitrose Hereford, the “feel of the shop was enjoyable and staff were very helpful”. However, the store lost marks on availability and layout, which our shopper said was “a little confusing and didn’t ‘flow’ the way I expected”.
Three out-of-stock items were a problem at Asda’s Isle of Dogs store. Our shopper had two good encounters with different members of staff, but their efforts were undermined by an argument between three members of staff over shifts right in the middle of the store.
