Tell us a bit about your store. How’s trade? We focus really hard on standards, getting back to basics, making sure the shop floor is clear and products are available. Friday was a very busy day for us because of the England match in the evening. Everyone seemed to condense their shopping into the day.
What’s selling well in your store? Summer food and drinks have done well. Despite the weather, garden furniture has been popular. And the fourth collection in the Gok for TU range has done exceptionally well. It only came out recently but already not all of the lines are available in the store.
Our shopper praised your knowledgeable staff. What is your team like? We have many staff who have worked here since the store opened. In fact, I was one of the managers who helped open the store and have been back four times since then in some management capacity. I’m now on my fifth time here and have been back 10 weeks.
Have you introduced anything new since coming back? Team huddles. We have two a day in the warehouse where we discuss how the store is doing and what we expect from the day. So it’s all about engaging with the staff.
Brand Match has been particularly successful for Sainsbury’s. Is it popular at your store? Yes, very. We have all our major rivals around us, so by having Brand Match we can tell our customers they don’t have to shop around.
Another big event for Sainsbury’s this year will be the Paralympics. What has your store got planned? We’re making sure we’re ready for when the big events happen and our colleagues are preparing to get very engaged. They’re planning to come in in fancy dress at the weekends!
If Justin King said you could have anything in your store, what would be top of your wish list? I’d ask for new shelving to display our products because we’ve still got the old grey ones
