Waitrose in Cheadle Hulme, Manchester wins with 79 points. In this mid-Friday-morning shop the store was “fairly busy” and sported “attractive” Valentine’s Day displays. There was a “good range” of counter services and the store was “well laid out”. Our shopper found it “easy” to navigate the aisles, while staff were “helpful and attentive”.
Iceland followed closely behind. Its Bathgate store was “very clean” and “nice and bright”. Staff were all “willing” to help and there was a “very nice” employee on checkout. But five items were unavailable.
Sainsbury’s in Telford was “very busy” with a “logical” layout and “plenty” of additional services. The store was “very clean and tidy” but was let down by a long wait at checkout (over four minutes).
Morrisons in Llanelli was “clean and well presented”. Although there were “plenty” of counter services staff, shopfloor staff were sparse and though some aided our shopper one “did not stop what he was doing” to assist.
Tesco in Hove displayed “good standards” and was “tidy and presentable”. Staff were “helpful, friendly and happy to help”. Checkout was “quick, simple and straightforward” and there was no queue. But six items were unavailable.
Asda in Harrogate gave an “underwhelming” first impression and “seemed quite dated”. It had a “good range of services” but a “slightly higgledy-piggledy” feel to the store led to low points on store layout. Checkout was “disappointing”, with the staff member there neither making eye contact nor speaking to our shopper
