Waitrose Boughton won the G33 this week with its “modern and impressive” store. Staff were “well presented” and “easy to find for help”: one went to find an item and brought it to our shopper as she continued her shop, another moved a restocking trolley that was in the way. Counters were “well presented” and the “juice bar was a welcome addition”.
There were “no pedestrian walkways” in the car park at Sainsbury’s Fulwood. One of the two entrances was “uninspiring with just a stack of Argos catalogues”. Plenty of Christmas displays and offers were appealing but the empty spaces in the fruit and veg section were not. “Marginally sufficient” checkouts open meant some waiting time for a till.
Asda Newton Abbot resembled an “aircraft hangar” it was so big. Signs above each aisle indicating categories were obscured from view by “placards displaying £ symbols”. “It was easier to ask staff rather than read the aisle signs”. Overall our shopper felt the emphasis was on “price not presentation”.
Despite a wait to get into the car park, first impressions of Tesco Cardiff were of a “roomy, tidy store” with “exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, including the duty store manager”. But there was poor availability at the store, with overall seven items out of stock or not stocked.
Last-placed Morrisons in Workington scored zero on availability, and some items seemed out of place, with “chocolate promotions nowhere near the chocolate aisles”. Shop floor staff were “mostly helpful” and some went out of their way.
