The largest Indian food factory in the world has been opened by Patak's in Leigh in Lancashire. The £18m state-of-the-art facility employs 248 and, at 164,000 sq ft, equates to the size of six football pitches. Chairman Kirit Pathak said: "The factory is the culmination of many years of hard work and signals an exciting new era for the business." The company has enjoyed significant growth in recent years, with annual sales of sauces, snacks, chutneys, pickles, pappadums and breads topping £50m.
