Ethnic snack maker Korway Foods has moved into the ice cream market after striking a £0.7m deal with receivers to buy troubled ice-cream company Camp Brothers.
Camp, which supplies its brand to the multiples and own label to Farmfoods from its base in North Lanarkshire, called in receivers Wylie & Bisset in June blaming soaring insurance costs and pricing pressure.
Mike Sheppard, who heads W&B’s insolvency division, said the deal would safeguard 32 jobs. He added: “We are delighted the Camp brand, which has had a presence in the Scottish marketplace for more than a century, will not be lost.”
Bellshill-based Korway, which supplies all of the multiples and several foodservice customers with frozen snacks and dips, said it was confident it could get Camp back into the black.
