Employee absenteeism in the retail sector is better than average, at 7.5 days per person per year.
This compares with nine days across industry as a whole says the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s annual survey of 1,300 organisations. For almost a fifth of companies the average was four weeks or more and, overall, around 4% of total employee working time in this country is lost to sickness absenteeism each year, at a cost of some £11 billion.
