Major seafood supplier The Seafood Company has been purchased by Canada’s largest seafood company.
FPI has acquired the privately held West Sussex-based processor and distributor for C$39.3m (£18m).
The deal creates a platform for further expansion for The Seafood Company, which is the largest distributor into UK retail of own label shellfish, supplying Tesco, M&S and Waitrose.
Group sales and marketing director Alan Townsend said: “We are delighted with this deal as this is the best partner to grow our business, having the same quality values.
“We did not want to be swallowed up by one of the larger Icelandic companies.
“We now have a very much brighter future and will be able to continue our expansion.”
The Seafood Company operates through Anchor Seafoods and The Cromer Crab Company. A core principle is buying from environmentally sound sources. The Cromer Crab Co has full organic certification.
