Feargal Quinn, who founded the Superquinn chain more than 40 years ago, made his final shopfloor exit last week as new owner Select Holdings, the Irish investor consortium, made its first management appointments.
Tom Nolan, a senior executive with Tesco Ireland, has been recruited as Superquinn’s buying director. He replaces the current purchasing director, Damien Carolan, who is taking early retirement. Carolan’s son, Declan, who headed the chain’s distribution centre in Blanchardstown, Dublin, is also moving on and is being replaced by Dutchman Ruurd Jellema. He previously worked for sports footwear retailer Foot Locker and was responsible for distribution across Europe.
Quinn will maintain a link with the supermarket chain as non-executive president.
