With a bronze and orange colour, the packaging of this product is eye-catching. I thought the combination suggested more of a Champagne persona compared with other Cava offerings I have seen. It has a really good, rich and fruity smell and taste. And, unlike some of the cheaper Cava variants, it did not leave an aftertaste. With this in mind, I would definitely look out for this Cava again, although the £6.99 price tag was more than I would normally fork out for this type of product. Grand Campo Viejo Cava is a good tipple, with only the question of price letting it down a little.

Campo Viejo is the largest Rioja brand in the UK and this new Cava variant will further extend Viejo’s presence in the marketplace and exploit the growth of the sparkling wine category in the UK, which grew by more than 8% last year. The liquid itself doesn’t disappoint. It has a very clean, fruity taste, with not too much carbonation. Very refreshing to drink and works well as a value-for-money alternative to Champagne. The packaging exudes Champagne cues and the label provides good product taste and usage occasion information. A very credible alternative to most Grande Marques Champagnes at only £6.99.
