Tyrrells is the latest posh crisp maker to launch a range of ridged potato chips, following the roll-out of Kettle Ridge Chips in July.

The Furrows range from Tyrrells is available in Waitrose and Booths stores now in sea salted, sea salt & vinegar and mature cheddar & pickled onion flavours (rsp: 70p per 40g, £1.70 per 150g pack).

"Unlike other handcooked chips, Tyrrells Furrows are an altogether more authentic crisp," said a spokeswoman. "They have more character delivered by leaving the peel on the potato to give a rustic look, and creating plenty of curl during hand cooking."

Kettle also keeps the potato peel on its Ridge Chips, and its 150g packs are 11p cheaper than Furrows'.

Sales of Tyrrells have rocketed 37.7% to £15.7m in the past year [Nielsen].
