Waitrose is set to help South African farmers with the launch of a Fairtrade avocado.
The retailer is the first to sell the Fuerte Large avocado, grown near the Kruger national park. The fruit will be available until June 27 when it will be replaced with a Fairtrade Hass avocado.
Gordon Fairbrother, central fruit buyer, said: “Waitrose prides itself on its ability to source all its fresh fruit and vegetables responsibily.”
The avocados will be available in selected Waitrose stores, priced at £1.39 each.
