Waitrose's presence in India is set to receive a boost with retailer Hypercity's plans to open 15 new stores. The British supermarket chain currently supplies 200 own-label products to Hypercity's Mumbai hypermarket, which opened last year. Hypercity plans to open a further 15 stores in the next 18 months, including two new formats, Expresscity and Gourmetcity, which will all stock Waitrose products. Gourmetcity stores, which will focus on premium food, will sell about 550 Waitrose lines, including chilled and frozen for the first time. The new Hypercity stores, to be designed by British firm JHP, will open in India's major cities, including Delhi.
