Waitrose has been commended for its innovative environment in a report by Accenture and the Talent Foundation.
Innovation ­ A Way of Being' praised the retailer for giving its permanent employees a stake in the ownership of the firm by making them partners with a share in the profits.
Waitrose's employee communications, which the report said helped create a sense of belonging and alignment with the organisation, were also admired.
"The company maintains transparency, informing all partners of company goals, strategies, missions, decisions and actions through a two-way communication process," said the report. It also acclaimed Waitrose's non-management Committee of Communication and its down time' rooms, designed to build informal relationships.
"The secret to being innovative lies not in the processes implemented by an organisation, though these are useful," said the report. "Rather it is in creating an environment that fosters innovation."
