Waitrose is building a substantial diet and nutrition education programme for children.
The supermarket chain has now established Waitrose Studios in three of its Food & Home branches. The facilities offer free school workshops using materials tied into the national curriculum. The studios cater for up to 30 children from mainstream or special needs schools in two-hour sessions led by qualified home economists. They cover topics such as food, hygiene and healthy eating.
Waitrose is also supporting a Focus on Food cooking bus, which visits primary schools and runs cookery workshops.
The retailer has also set up Waitrose Food Explorers as part of its internet-based education service, offering learning activities for classroom and home, plus teaching notes.
