Elisabeth the Chef has announced that it plans to sell its loss-making frozen bread bakery in Aberytswyth at what it claims is a heavily discounted price.
The company says it wants to focus on its core fresh, chilled patisserie, cakes and desserts business with the major supermarkets. But it also said that the bakery, with an annual turnover of £5m, is operating marginally below profit.
Tony Harris, chief executive of Elisabeth the Chef, told the 200 bakery staff that unless a buyer was found they would be forced to consider closure and redundancies. Harris said: "It is a well-equipped bakery with excellent facilities."
