Whole Foods Market, which is set to open its first UK store in London this year, has acquired US grocery chain Wild Oats Market for $565m (£290m).

Wild Oats Markets is a natural and organic food retailer, with 100 stores in 24 US states and annual sales of $1.2bn.

“Our companies have similar missions and core values and we believe the synergies gained from this combination will create long-term value for our customers, vendors and shareholders, as well as exciting opportunities for our new and existing team members,” said John Mackey, chairman, CEO and co-founder of Whole Foods Market.
