Managing director of Booker Gerry Johnson will be leaving the cash and carry company in the near future.
Baugur’s Hans Kristian Hustad is now chief executive and chairman of GiantBid Co, which is comprised of Booker and Woodward Foodservice.
Johnson’s departure follows former Big Food Group chief executive Bill Grimsey’s exit, after he declined an offer to take the helm at Booker.
It was Grimsey who brought Johnson to Booker as managing director four years ago, reuniting the partnership they had at Wickes. As logistics director, Johnson had been Grimsey’s
right-hand man at the DIY chain and was responsible for setting up the home delivery operation for kitchens and conservatories. Johnson started his career with a Saturday job at Tesco and gave up completing his A levels to work for the store full time.
He worked his way through the Tesco management training programme and ran various stores before leaving for a field management role at furniture chain Allied Maples, which was owned by Asda at the time, before moving on to supply chain management.
Hustad thanked Johnson for his hard work and said: “Gerry has contributed to Booker’s achievements over the past four years. He is currently working closely with the management team and doing everything he can to ensure future success at Booker.”
