Cash and carry chain Makro is embarking on an expansion drive with two new depots opening next month and more planned.

Buying director Andrew Snowden said the group would open a depot in Ipswich at the beginning of September, another in Chester at the end of the month, and was currently finalising planning permission for a depot in Wolverhampton.

Together with the recently opened Exeter branch these openings would create 1,200 additional full and part time jobs, he added.

Speaking at the launch of the group’s Christmas range, Snowden said the plans had the full support of Makro’s parent company, Metro.
