Bulgarian wine producer Boyar Estates is releasing several of its branded wines in a bag-in-box format. The move begins with two wines from its Blueridge and Domaine Boyar ranges ­ a Merlot and a Cabernet Sauvignon.
The packs have been designed to appeal to UK consumers and, according to the company, reflect modern Bulgarian winemaking indicative of the Boyar name.

ALes boldly go
Liverpool's Cains brewery is producing three ales to accompany a touring event for sci-fi series Star Trek. In total Cains has made 38,000 limited edition bottles for the show, Star Trek ­ The Adventure, which will be visiting UK cities. The exclusive brews ­ Klingon Export, Ferengi Eelwasser and Romulan ale ­ have been individually numbered for added appeal to Star Trek collectors.

Push for SA wines
Myliko Wines is aiming to strengthen its role distributing South African brands in the UK by taking on wines from the Welmoed and Helderberg wineries.
Based in the Stellenbosch region, distribution of the wines has been transferred to Myliko from Hazeley Wines.

Buyers are being targeted with a new can which promises to store wine without causing wine taint. Australian firm Woomba Wines claims to have invented an impervious membrane inside the can which stops the wine deteriorating, ensuring that it stays fresh.
Two wines ­ a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Shiraz from Franklin Estates ­ have been placed in the cans, which use the label Aussie Wines'.
The new format is being shown at the Australia Day tastings in London next week.
