The logistics arm of McVitie’s owner Pladis has been on a transformational journey over the last four years. By putting supply chain at the heart of its business, it has helped the biscuit supplier’s reputation soar among its retail customers.
The then United Biscuits went from 18th in the Advantage rankings in 2013 to number one in 2015. And while it slipped into second place last year that was certainly no mean feat considering its second largest factory in the UK was out of action for three months because of flooding caused by Storm Desmond.
One of our judges described the Pladis journey as superb, with the “momentum and achievement over the year giving it the edge” over the other finalists. As well focusing on the customer, Pladis has also continually improved health and safety for its staff, resulting in a reduction in accident frequency to industry-leading levels.
