Ever wished your energy drink had a hint of sparkling sausage? Your dreams are now a reality thanks to Cue’s curry sausage flavoured energy drink. Packed with caffeine, the product contains four added vitamins and retails in a 250ml can at €1.54/£1.11.
Coconut water is so last year. Now it’s all about Artichoke Water. Arty claims it’s the world’s first premium, plant-based beverage made from fresh California artichokes. Those artichokes come at a price though – it retails at $10.88 (£7.37) for a 4x8oz pack.
Bob The Brain claims to enhance intellectual performance and alertness for better concentration. Described as a wellness product, the drink (CAD2.99/£1.44) features an “exhilarating taste” of bountiful berry fruits and is made with premium kola and nut and ginseng.
Crack out the vodka and dry gin! Lidl claims its new tomato flavoured tonic water (€2.49/£1.79 for six 20cl bottles) is the perfect mixer for them. It “features a fruity scent with green notes” and was developed by the two Michelin stars awarded chef Sergi Arola.
Despite looking like a can of lager, Stoli’s limited edition Spicy Cinnamon Ginger Beer packs a punch of the non-alcoholic kind. In fact, it is marketed as a premium mixer with a price tag to match ($5.88/£3.98 for a four pack).
“We’ve changed soft drinks for good,” shouts Nudie. Its range of Nudie & Soda drinks (AUD11.99/£6.89) are made with 50% real fruit and less than 2.5% of sugar per can. Variants include an apple, cucumber & kiwi and orange, mango & passion fruit.
Japan is certainly the place to find unusual coloured food – black cheeseburgers and green Kit Kats, for example. Now, courtesy of Pepsi, cola is available in pink. The strawberry milk flavoured drink retails at JPY151 (£0.48) for 490ml.
This plum and kombucha flavoured mineral water (€1.25/£0.90) plays to health-conscious consumers’ needs. It’s free from sweeteners and colourings and is enriched with vitamins, according to Thüringer Waldquell Wellness. It contains aromatic apple vinegar and fermented herbal tea.
Cannabis ice tea! Okay, not quite – it’s made from hemp but given the design on the bottle you’d be forgiven for thinking it had different properties. This unusual ice tea (CZK39:00/£0.94) is free from added sugar, colours and preservatives.
Tapping into Kiwis love of fruity ciders, this creation combines basil and hops extracts with pear juice – without the sugar or alcohol, according to Höpt. The “crisp and refreshing” soda retails at NZD6.00/£2.52 for a 4 x 330ml pack.
Dr Oetker’s wholesome wholegrain mug cake (BRL2.49/£0.55) takes baking to the next level in terms of convenience. It’s ready in one minute and 10 seconds, and contains granola and pieces of banana.
Good old Betty! Mrs Crocker sure knows how to get taste buds tingling, with the launch of the triple layer caramel hot fudge cake mix ($5.98/£4.06) under the Hershey's brand. All it needs is water and can go from box to oven in five minutes.
Bringing healthiness to home baking, I Quit Sugar’s offering (AUD 6.35/£3.66) is said to be a delicious and healthy muesli ball mix blended with nutrient-dense super foods that is free from fructose and added sugar. Best of all, it still tastes chocolatey!
Calling all mini Heston Blumenthals! Cookit has created a bio molecular cooking kit especially for budding food scientists. It contains four sachets of organic agar, a syringe, a spaghetti tube and a pipette, and is organically certified.
The English might find the idea of putting cassava or tapioca in their cupcakes rather odd, luckily the Indonesians don’t. The mix (IDR 15325/£0.69) requires the addition of 200g of it plus 400cc of water to make 30 medium pink cupcakes.
