Retail charity scratchcard specialist Rieves Lotteries has secured a new partnership with Morrisons to roll out cards for the retailer’s chosen charity Sue Ryder in 500 stores.
The move is predicted to raise over £1m for Sue Ryder, which supports people through the challenges of life-changing illness.
Rieves is licensed by the Gambling Commission to promote lotteries on behalf of charities and their scratchcards can also be found in 400 Poundland as well as specialist lottery kiosks situated in major shopping centres around the UK. The scratchcards cost £1 or £2 and offer a one in four chance of winning with prizes up to £1,000.
The company currently work with a number of charities including The Royal British Legion, Breast Cancer Care, and most recently Sue Ryder.
“We’re delighted to be teaming up with Morrisons and raising money for a great charity like Sue Ryder,” said Rieves Lotteries director Steve Lyons. “Our company ethos is to offer retailers a tailored solution which provides them, and their customers, with the best possible return from scratchcards which in turn raises a significant amount of money for a host of great charities.”
Lyons added the scratchcard category has quadrupled in size over the last ten years and is now worth in excess of £2bn annually. He explained that 50% of the ticket price goes to make up the prize fund, 20% goes to the appointed charity with the remaining 30% divided between the retailer’s commission and Rieves. This also included covering the costs of the cards.
“Morrisons colleagues voted for Sue Ryder to be our new charity partner. We chose to work with them as we want to support families affected by incurable illness across the country,” said Morrisons head of corporate affairs Guy Mason.
“This partnership with Rieves will really help make a difference to the charity. We are always looking to offer customers new products and the addition of charity scratchcards is a fantastic way to increase customer choice, with the positive feeling gained from knowing exactly which charity is receiving support.”
