Phileas Fogg has been portrayed on screen by Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan and a cartoon lion - probably not what Jules Verne had in mind.
Perhaps this is why the famed vagrant doesn’t show up in the new ad for Phileas Fogg snacks. Instead, we look on as a young man meets his girlfriend’s parents and immediately makes a faux pas, uttering the ‘c-word’ (‘crisps’, if you were wondering).
It’s a clever attention-grabber - and the subsequent punchline is delivered smartly. As the potential in-laws explain that the snacks are in fact “the taste of Mexico”, dodgy fancy dress is donned. The his-and-hers (and cat’s) lucha libre masks are a nice detail - and the brand’s wordly cred is established in a suitably lighthearted fashion.
