Morrisons has continued its upward movement and takes the number one spot, standing a full five percentage points ahead of Asda which has moved two places to number two. Tesco remains stable at number three.
The success of Asda and Morrisons is due in some part to the multitude of promotions on both alcoholic and soft drinks. Both retailers have particularly drawn attention to these promotions with a number of large displays around the store and by the use of several gondola ends.
In the category chart the top three retain their positions although alcoholic drinks at number one has increased its lead from two percentage points to 11.
There is a huge range of promotions to choose from in the alcoholic drinks category, with lagers and beers particularly dominant and a number of spirits brands supporting the category.
Elsewhere in the chart, snacks moves up by one place forcing frozen food down to number five.
The brand chart is clearly dominated by drinks with six appearing in the top 10.
Stella Artois romps ahead to take the lead while Foster's, Carling and Kronenbourg all come in as new entries at numbers eight, nine and 10 respectively.
Tango is the only other new entry this week at number five while Coca-Cola remains in the chart at number seven although it has dropped five places.
In the own label chart household moves up one place to take the top spot, forcing frozen down to number two.
There is just one new entry, health and beauty, which comes in at number five.
