Last year, the Service award went right down to the wire, but this year, Sainsbury’s had it all sewn up by the end of April.
Retaining the award for a second year, Sainsbury’s dominated The Grocer 33 Store of the Week contest from the start.
It chalked up an unprecedented eight wins from the first 10 weeks of the competition and hit double figures before Morrisons and Waitrose had even registered their first win.
By the halfway point it had taken 14 out of 25 wins, with Tesco and Asda both on four, Morrisons on two and Waitrose trailing behind on one.
Though its win rate slowed in the second half of the year, Sainsbury’s remained consistent. It secured the award in week 43 and, in a final hurrah, went on to win a further four weeks to finish on 21 wins. Its rivals failed to reach double figures, with Asda, Morrisons and Tesco all recording eight wins and Waitrose five.
