Parents are paying more to feed their little ones, with prices for formula soaring in the mults.
Assosia data shows a raft of baby milk SKUs have risen in price in the supermarkets over recent weeks [12 w/e 11 March 2022].
Aptamil Organic 1 First Infant Milk from Birth 800g, for example, rose from £12 to £13.50 on 4 March in Sainsbury’s.
On 28 February, Cow & Gate 1-2 Years Growing Up Milk 200ml rose from 70p to 75p in Tesco, the data shows.
SMA Growing Up Milk 1-3 Years 200ml rose from 80p to 85p in Asda on 5 March.
Little Steps First Infant Milk From Birth 200ml was also subject to a price increase at the retailer, rising from 70p to 75p on 4 March, the data reveals.
A spokeswoman for Danone confirmed it had raised prices for Aptamil and Cow & Gate products.
“We do understand that changes in price can cause concern and frustration, so we always try to absorb costs and make savings where possible,” she said.
“However, like most manufacturers, we are facing strong inflationary pressures due to increased costs in producing, storing and transporting our products.”
A spokeswoman for Nestlé, which owns SMA and Little Steps, said it was also “experiencing pressure in terms of raw material and price increases”.
The fmcg giant was doing “everything we can to manage these costs”, she added.
The Grocer has approached Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda for comment.
