Biscuit specialist McVitie’s is aiming to grab a share of consumers’ confectionery gifting spend this Christmas with a ‘yard of Jaffa Cakes’.
Rolling out to retailers now, the £3.49 offering comes in a kingsize outer containing five packs end-to-end.
The manufacturer is also making the most of the brand’s playful packaging by stamping messages such as ‘I’m dreaming of an orange Christmas’ on the outside of the limited edition special. Richard Pearson, commercial director of United Biscuits, said the product was “a bit of fun”.
“We want to extend the Jaffa Cakes brand into the core confectionery offering and feel the brand lends itself perfectly to this opportunity.”
According to ACNielsen, Jaffa Cake sales soared by more than 9% in the year to October 2 to ring more than £43m through the nation’s tills.
Pearson said he saw no reason why the giant seasonal pack should be embroiled in any healthy-eating row. “The brand contains only 1g of fat per cake and we are not anticipating anyone eating them in one go.”
