Andy Heath
New product development manager, Proper Cornish, on pasty perks, Valentino Rossi and hating phones
What was your first-ever job? The infamous paper round. Great in the summer but not so appealing in colder months!
What has been your worst job interview? Not the worst, but most amusing by far - I arrived in a suit and tie and the interviewer was dressed in shorts, flip flops and a ripped t-shirt.
What was the first music single you bought? Ghostbusters. I’ve still got the single, but no turntable to play it on.
How do you sell your job to your mates? Once I mention a free pasty for lunch, it’s sold! Plus I get to work in one of the UK’s most beautiful counties.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Without a doubt, seeing my team succeed in delivering exciting new products.
What is the least rewarding? Probably a contract not coming through after we’ve produced a great new product for them.
What is your motto in life? Treat others as you would like to be treated.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? You mean there is a better perk than having an award-winning, hand crimped steak pasty for lunch every day?!
Do you have any phobias? More something I avoid - I hate phones! Nothing beats face to face communication.
If you could change one thing in the savoury category, what would it be? To be able to make pastry products that help you lose weight. I would be a very wealthy man!
What luxury would you have on a desert island? A crisp chilled Chablis, to drink with all the fresh seafood I would catch.
What animal most reflects your personality? A terrier because I tenaciously stick with a project until it’s complete.
What is your favourite film and why? Alien. It’s the first great horror sci-fi movie. Nothing beats it.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? While cheffing in Jersey, my first job was to gut and fillet the fresh fish. After lunch service I would return home where my wife to be would make me remove my whites before entering our flat. This on occasion could cause embarrassment!
Which celebrity would you most like to work with? Valentino Rossi. I would like to become his personal chef and cook at all the Moto GP events around the world.
