What was your first-ever job? When I was 14 I sold Avon door-to-door on our housing estate in Jarrow.
What was your worst job interview? It was an internal one at Emap to be the new events director. I was very enthusiastic, but then gutted when I was offered the job and realised I loved magazines more.
What was the first single you bought? Monster Mash. By the time I could afford an LP I had moved on to Altered Images.
How do you describe your job to your mates? We make the UK’s most ethical mineral water. We supply all the best restaurants and bars and then we give all of our profits to WaterAid.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Being able to not conform to a traditional business model, rules and regulations and being 100% focused with my team on doing the right thing, not the most profitable thing.
What is the least rewarding part? It drives me mad when the CSR function of a business and the procurement teams are completely disconnected. How can one department publish their commitment to purchase sustainably and yet when it gets to the buying team, the only brief they have is to buy the cheapest?
What’s your nickname? I’ve had several and all to do with my hair. Big Hair, Curlybird, Crystal tips.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? I’d love to visit more of WaterAid’s work, and I’d love to be able to take all of my team and our customers.
What’s your favourite movie and why? Dirty Dancing, because it has some of the best lines, and all the best moves.
Do you have any phobias? I’m really scared of flying, especially in small planes.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Jessica Ennis: now there’s a lady who can multitask.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? Less waste, in every way.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? A mixologist and a well-stocked bar. If you’re going to be on the beach you might as well make the most of it!
What animal best reflects your personality and why? My husband would say a Tasmanian Devil, I don’t have a clue why but he is always asking me to ‘just slow down’.
