What was your first-ever job? Waitressing in a restaurant. I got the job at lunchtime and started working that afternoon.
What’s been your worst job interview? When I was asked to roleplay and sell the interviewer a screwdriver, which was odd as the company specialised in car rental!
What was the first music single you bought? ‘Jump’ by Kris Kross.
How do you describe your job to your mates? Marketing at Burts Chips… quickly followed by “and yes, I do get to eat the crisps”.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? The feedback from happy consumers. Oh, and that I get to try all our flavours on a daily basis.
What is the least rewarding part? Not having enough time or money to take advantage of every brand opportunity.
What is your motto? Live. Love. Laugh. Every day.
What’s your nickname? I’m affectionately known by my family as Toady. This has stuck with me pretty much since the day I was born and is based on no rationale at all.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? The Burts Chips offices are based in a beautiful rural location, so I’d have a button to pause time, which I would use to cycle and appreciate Dartmoor.
What’s your favourite movie and why? Sweet November. It’s a heartfelt story with a ‘live every day as if it’s your last’ undertone. Lovely.
Do you have any phobias? Definitely creepy crawlies - yuk!
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be? Heston Blumenthal. I would bring him in to work with our NPD team to develop new crisp recipes.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? The constant need to drive volume through promotion. This devalues the market and means smaller, quality brands often suffer.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? I would have a hammock, ice-cold water and a supply of amazing food including Burts Vintage Cheddar and Spring Onion crisps.
What animal best reflects your personality and why? An otter - they are small yet engaging creatures with boundless positive energy. They’re also intelligent, lovable and mix easily with a wide range of personalities.
