Sparkling wine giant Freixenet is making a major play in still wines with the launch of a trio of Italian wines.
They are: Pinot Grigio D.O.C, Italian Rosé, and Chianti D.O.C.G. They come packaged in diamond-cut glass bottles like the brand’s well-known sparkling wines (rsp: £10/70cl).
The pinot grigio was “an elegant white with grapes from the picturesque Garda region in northern Italy”, said the brand, while the rosé was made with grapes from Veneto, and “evokes a subtle fragrance and the taste of red cherries and strawberries”.
The Chianti, meanwhile, had a “delicate bouquet” with “tones of wild berries, complemented by lightly spiced notes and violet aromas”.
The Italian still wine segment was “declining ahead of the total still wine category and there is a strong opportunity to bring some excitement and innovation to this sector”, said the brand.
“Freixenet aims to build on the success of the prosecco and sparkling Italian rosé and again disrupt the category with a unique and stunning premium proposition.”
