In our monthly survey, retailers are given no prompts, but simply asked to think of a promotion that was worthwhile.
Only 9% were able to highlight activity worth mentioning  and that was on Carling, Coca-Cola, Foster's, Walkers and Whiskers.
Last month, more than half our sample struggled to recall a brand promotion or offer worth praising, but this month's 91% failure rate is the worst for brand owners since the poll was launched in the summer.
However, as can be seen in the promotional chart compiled for The Grocer by Logobrand, there is plenty of activity underway in the convenience sector  most notably on alcoholic drinks brands.
The monthly chart provides a measure of the instore promotional "noise" being made by brands in the c-stores visited by Logobrand. It is based on the most visible instore promotions.
As Christmas draws nearer, it is probably not too suprising to find the chart dominated by alcoholic drinks, with seven of the top 10 beers and lagers.
Multibuy offers appear to be the preferred form of activity for these brands.
Kronenbourg and San Miguel both feature in Spar while Kronenbourg also appears in Costcutter, and San Miguel is in Londis. Holsten Pils and Boddingtons both use multibuy offers  with Holsten featuring in Londis.
Despite such activity on alcoholic beverages, Logobrand has put Fanta in the number one spot. The soft drinks brand features strongly in Spar with buy one get one free offers.
Last month, Budweiser and Heineken were judged to be making the most "noise".
Only one brand remains in the chart from last month  Carlsberg  which moves up to number four from number eight.
